A piece about learning, or relearning, to drive as an adult
Written, produced and scored by Amber Devereux
With contributions from: Becc, Tobias and Sarina
This piece was made live on the Tin Can Audio Twitch channel, you can watch an archive of this episode being made on Youtube.
Today I am releasing the second episode of my joint stream/podcast project, tiny.
This month's episode is a short exploration of my experiences of relearning how to drive, over 10 years after originally passing my driving test, as well as the experiences of some of my friends. This episode was an interesting challenge as I didn't really go into the project with a clear structure in mind. I collected some archive audio of old driving safety films, I interviewed some of my friends, I recorded myself driving about my neighbourhood late at night, all without much of a plan or angle. It was a slightly nerve-wracking experience pulling everything together and sort of hoping that it worked.
The end result is reminiscent of a late night conversation while on a drive, an atmosphere I was happy to discover in these stories.
I'm really enjoying this process. It's more difficult than just making music in front of people and I think the end result is a bit more haphazard than something I'd get commissioned to make. But I feel that's also part of the fun, flailing around in public and hopefully learning something in the process.
We'll be back next month with another short piece, as voted for by my Twitch viewers and Ko-Fi members. If you want to watch me work, I stream on Twitch Mondays and Wednesdays from 8pm UK/3pm Eastern.
See you there!
